WELCA - Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is a women’s ministry that has local, national and international roots and we have an active unit here at Holy Cross. Christian fellowship is its hub with its spokes being service projects, outreach commitments, study of God’s word, prayer and interchurch activities. All women at Holy Cross are members of WELCA.

 

The Women of the ELCA invite every woman of Holy Cross Lutheran Church to participate in the best group you could imagine! We have a fun, spiritual time of fellowship, Bible Study, book discussion, going to Christian retreats, sharing with other churches, helping around our church and lots more! At any gathering you will find physical and emotional and spiritual fine foods.

 

Meetings are September till June on the third and last Tuesdays of the month at 7:00 pm. Check out our web calendar for the date of the next meeting.

Women of the Evangelical Church in America

As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.

 

Purpose:

The Women of the ELCA indentify three areas of Mission guiding the programs and work of the women’s organization.

1. Mission: Community

To enable each woman to value herself and others as created in God’s image and redeemed through Christ; and to build up and celebrate relationships which are global, diverse and interdependent.

2. Mission: Growth

To provide a variety of learning experiences which strengthen each woman as a whole person, develop her potential and equip her for ministry.

3. Mission: Action

To enable women to articulate and act upon their faith as disciples of Christ in all areas of life.

OCTOBER

WELCA Evening Circle... Tuesday, October 18th, we will meet in CrossWords & Gifts at 7:00 pm. All women are welcome. The effort is truly worth it. We always have great fellowship and fun. Program: Deacon Dee always comes home from the Tuscarora Retreat spiritually refreshed and full of ideas.

 

WELCA Reading Circle... We will meet at Gabi's home in East Setauket on Tuesday, October 25th at 7:00 pm. Carpooling is available. Please contact Dee Hecker through the church office at 631-588-9509. No problem!

 

NOVEMBER

In November, there will be only ONE meeting, at church on Tuesday, November 29th at 7:00 pm. Don't forget the annual "Thanksgiving Goodies" bake sale in the Narthex on Sunday, November 20th after each service. Please serve up your holiday best for sale to fellow Holy Cross families.

WELCA Evening Circle - Evening Circle meetings for Holy Cross’ unit of Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America are held monthly at the church at 7:00 pm in our CrossWords & Gifts store. All women are warmly welcome.

WELCA Reading Circle - WELCA Reading Circle meetings are held on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm at various members’ homes. If you would like to join us or need directions, please call the church office at 631-588-9509.
