Island People Need Food - The Riverhead office of the Long
Island Council of Churches needs food. Particularly needed are
canned vegetables, fruit, beans, peanut butter, jelly, canned
meat, stew and hash. Drop off is Monday through Friday from 9:30

Self
Esteem In Relationships - is a program to help women find
support and encouragement as they develop self-awareness and
self-esteem. Ascension Lutheran Church in Deer Park invites
women from the area to inquire about this FREE and Confidential

Housing
Applications - The Long Island Housing Partnership is
receiving applications for the Town of Islip Affordable Housing
Program, Courthouse Commons, located in Central Islip. This
complex will include 252 new construction condos of which 51
units are designated as workforce housing. They have 2 bedrooms
and 2 baths. Limited to first-time home buyers who earn at or
below $90,000 for a family of two. For an application, please
call 631-435-4710 ext. 0. You can visit the Housing Partnership
at 180 Oser Avenue in Hauppauge, too. The units will cost
between 240,000 and $260,000. Eligible applicants will receive a
$25,000 grant toward the down payment.
Emergency
Preparedness Information - Do you know what you should have
planned and on-hand in the event of a weather or other
emergency? The Federal Emergency Management Agency, The Red
Cross and The Weather Channel offer practical planning
suggestions o being prepared and lists of items you should have
on hand. Please stop by the Information Center in the Narthex
and pick up a yellow emergency preparedness information booklet.

Stony
Brook WIC Program - in East Setauket. This program entitles
low income pregnant or postpartum women, infants and children up
to the age of five to receive nutrition education and checks to
purchase specific foods. WIC foods consist of infant formula and
cereal, milk, cheese, eggs, beans, peanut butter, cereal, juice,
tuna fish and carrots. If you have any questions regarding the

Help
Available in Suffolk with Prescriptions and Eyeglasses -
The
Long Island Council of Churches has just received a grant from
the Suffolk Health Improvement Partnership that will enable us
to vastly expand the assistance we can provide to Suffolk County
prescriptions and eyeglasses for the uninsured and the under
insured. Those seeking this help should call our Riverhead
office (631-727-2210) for an appointment. It will speed things
up if they bring a prescription, two forms of identification (to
verify Suffolk County residence), proof of income, and a letter
of referral from their pastor/priest/rabbi/iman/caseworker to
407 Osborn Avenue (on the corner of Lincoln, opposite the Polish
Town Civic Association).
Rescue
Companionship Services - located in Northport, provides
affordable non-medical support services at private homes and
health care institutions. Companionship services are those
services which provide fellowship, care and protection for
people in need of those services such as good company and
conversation, errands, prepare and clean up meals, escort to
religious services, grooming, etc. Rescue Companionship Services
provides companions for as little as four hours a day up to 24

The
Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind - is looking for 25
“puppy walkers.” Raise an adorable puppy for one year. No
previous dog experience necessary. Veterinary expenses are
covered by the Guide Dog Foundation. Training assistance is

used suits which can help woman who are getting back on their

United
Cerebral Palsy of Greater Suffolk - seeks dedicated
individuals to work as Direct Care Aides with developmentally
disabled adults in group home settings. No experience is
required and training will be provided. High School graduate or
equivalent and valid NYS Drivers License is required. Retirees
welcome. We offer fully paid medical benefits for full time

Victims of domestic violence are often blamed for the beatings.

Literacy
Volunteers Needed... In Suffolk County, one out of every seven adults does not have
the literacy skills to function fully in society. There are over
700 adults waiting for a tutor. What can you do to help? Become
a tutor! Literacy Suffolk needs volunteers to help adults learn
to read, write and/or speak English. There are tutor training
