Enlivened! Enthused! Infused with God’s Spirit!
Dear Friends in Christ,
Suppose you were sitting in church and all of a sudden the church was filled with the sound of a rushing, mighty wind. Probably, we’d blame the weather for this freak of nature: “Once again, the weather forecasters were wrong!”
The followers of Christ who gathered in a house on the day of Pentecost were waiting for something to happen.
“And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them the ability.” Acts 2:2-4
They were waiting. They were excited and apprehensive. And then it happened - wind, tongues of fire, and the miraculous capacity for communication. The good news of this miracle is that the Holy Spirit is given to us to speak the great and good news of God’s love, compassion, and joy for His people. As we receive the power of the Holy Spirit, we are enlivened, enthused and infused with God’s Spirit to live life abundantly knowing that the Holy Spirit is always with us, empowering us, encouraging us, energizing us, and forgiving us. Jesus says, “ Lo, I am with you always, even to the close of the ages.” Matthew 28:20
John 14:8-17, 25-27 describes how God will be present and active among his people through the Spirit. The Father is made manifest through his Son, Jesus; through what he says and by the good deeds of love, of service, of healing, of reconciliation, of peacemaking. These same acts are to be done by His followers by the power of the Holy Spirit who is at work in us.
The ongoing power and presence of God in the lives of his people will be experienced through God’s Spirit given to his people in the name of Jesus. The Spirit brings confidence, peace, enabling power, support and comfort.
May God bless you and fill you with His Spirit.
In Christ’s love,
Rev. Claudia D. Raggie
